Kira's voice was muffled on the other side of the room. "Of courth I am, dammit!" "Nerys..." Odo's voice dropped to a mildly chiding tone. Her voice grew frantic and muffled now. "Thorry, thorry, but if we don't find it..." "If we don't find it what?" Kira stopped the frantic sweeping gesture of her hands under her bed and sat back on her folded legs to look across the bed at him. "You *know* what." His blue eyes were calm. "Would it really be so bad if the others knew?" She sighed. "You know I'm not ashamed of it, Odo, but..." "But?" "Dammit, Odo, juth keep looking!" She got back on her hands and knees and started her sweeping motions as far as she could under her side of the bed. "I'm sure I could find it if you let me just--" "No!" It was Odo's turn to sit back on his folded legs and look to her with fond exasperation. "Nerys..." "Nereeth nothing!" Kira got up and glared at him. "Thith ith ridiculuth!" The slight gap in her front teeth was barely noticeable Odo noted, except of course, when she had to say anything with an "s" sound. It was his fault the cosmetic cap had come loose and fallen out earlier that morning. Of course, if they hadn't both been caught up in a rip-roaring climax at the time, it might not have slid down the sheets and bounced under the bed. "If you don't want me to use my shapeshifting ability to find it, then I'd suggest visiting Bashir now, before your shift, and having him replace it." "He'll jutht laugh at me. Everybody laughthh at me. You thood've heard Furel and Lupatha when thith firth happened!" "Nonsense. Bashir is a doctor and I'm sure he's treated other people who have lost part of their tooth or teeth before." Kira sighed, then brightened and sat straighter. "Come with me. _You_ tell him why I'm there. That way I don't have to talk." "I'm sure he won't ask, he'll only want to repair your tooth." "Hah!" Kira's arms folded across her chest. "Nerys." "Pleeth thweetheart." Her eyes begged him. To his credit, Odo did not find her lisp amusing; she remained lovely to him. He could not refuse those dark, brown, beseeching eyes. He nodded. "All right. Let's go." (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) "So how did this happen?" Odo harumphed a little, discomfited. "Doctor, is that really important? Can't you just fix her tooth?" "Well, it's highly unusual for a cosmetic cap of this sort to just fall out." Bashir assessed Kira's open mouth and shook his head. "Were you eating something hard, Major?" Odo actually choked a little, distracting Bashir from the quavery smirk that Kira couldn't hide. "Are you quite all right, constable?" Odo nodded, managing a pleasant expression and Bashir turned back to the now recovered Kira. "Well, Major? Did you lose it while you were eating something?" She started to shake her head when he pulled back his dental scanner and stopped her. "Please don't shake your head. You can talk while I use this." She snorted then and Julian frowned. "What is it? Did you injure your mouth as well, Major?" "Actually, doctor, she'd rather not speak until you fix her tooth." Odo supplied helpfully, shrugging a little at Kira's sudden glare. "That's ridiculous. It won't harm your tooth any further to speak to me, Major." He gave her his most professional smile. "Now, if you could tell me how this happened--" "No." she muttered. "But--" "No." she crossed her arms in front of her chest. Bashir looked at her, over at Odo who shrugged at him, then back to Kira. "Very well. But how can I know what part of the replacement might need reinforcing if I don't know what caused you to lose this one?" To his surprise, she suddenly reached over to the instrument tray, grabbed a medical padd and wrote furiously on it. She handed it to him and he read aloud, "I won't be doing what caused it to fall out EVER, and I do mean EVER, again." Odo made that odd choking sound again behind him and Bashir turned now, picking up his med scanner and starting to run it over the flustered changeling. "Really, constable. That doesn't sound good or particularly normal. How long have you been making that sound?" "Eh...only today. Really I'm fine." Odo's blue eyes looked beseeching and a touch woebegone, though, as he looked to Kira over Bashir's shoulder. The doctor didn't notice as he was recalibrating his scanner and then running it along Odo's throat and neck area, now caught up in something else. "It's really quite amazing, constable. Your stint in a human form has definitely allowed you to mimic the functions more effectively. Do you know you are reading as humanoid? Not fully human, but definitely humanoid. There's even a heat register and a faint, but discernible doppler-like circulatory-thrum." "I've been practicing." "I'll say." The scanner moved lower. "Why, you even have a rudimentary pulmonary system...and a rudimentary digestive tract...even--" he paused, the scanner at the level of Odo's hips now and snapped the device into standby-mode while smiling in a slightly apologetic way at the somewhat abashed constable. "Even a few other humanoid...things." Kira snorted, surprising both men and she glared at Bashir. "Can you repair my tooth?" "Oh, right. Of course." He picked up the dental scanner again. "Well, then...if you don't want to tell me what happened, perhaps you can tell me if the stress on the tooth was internal or external?" Kira considered this, her brows knitting, mouth open as he began to take the careful measurements of the affected tooth again. After a while she shrugged and began to shake her head. Bashir moved the dental scanner back again. "Just answer me, Major. You can talk while I get the measurements I need for the medical replicator." Frustrated, she finally sputtered, "How am I thuppothed to an-ther you when I'm not thhyooor?" Bashir nearly dropped the scanner, pursing his lips very primly indeed into utter non-amusement, although his eyes glimmered now with humor. "I see." He cleared his throat and spoke over his shoulder. "Constable, perhaps *you* can tell me then. Did you notice what the Major was doing at the time the tooth was lost?" Odo froze in uncertain alarm. After a moment long enough for Bashir to turn and look at him expectantly, he shrugged slightly. "She...she was...er...shouting...actually." Kira rolled her eyes, but Bashir didn't notice this, nodding in understanding. "Ah. So you two were having an argument then, I take it?" "Well--" "Yeth." Kira gave Odo a hard look that only confirmed Bashir's notion. "And still at odds, I see. Major, do you remember what I told you about your blood pressure just last week?" "Yeth." "And do you remember I told you that you need to relax, to not get so riled over things? Have you been sleeping enough lately?" Kira gave Odo another look before swallowing and shaking her head. "No, not really." Bashir sighed. "That's the other reason that you get so easily irritated, you know. One needs to get plenty of bed rest." "Well...I've thh-pent plenty of time in bed. Juth not thleeping." "Mm-hmm. Insomnia is a sign that one is stressed out, Major. Tired and overworked. You really need more time off. And the two of you need to forgive each other. You're good friends. Good friends shouldn't fight and shout at each other." He looked from one to the other until both nodded. He sighed. "All right then, it's settled. After I replicate a new cap for your tooth and replace it, you will report to the holosuite for some R&R. Doctor's orders, Major." "But--" "No buts. You are off-duty for today. And to make sure you follow through, constable, this *is* your day off, is it not?" "Yes, Doctor." "Then I would ask for you to make sure my orders are followed, at least this afternoon. Kira is not to lift a finger. She is to program something relaxing, no adventures or mysteries to solve, just something pleasant. Dax's Hoobishian bath program or the Risan seaside or the Betazoid spa, anything pleasant and relaxing and contemplative." "Well, I--" Bashir turned and gave Odo a commiserating look. "I know, constable, that you probably had plans, but this is for the major's health. You can take a book with you to read while Kira relaxes. And no arguments from you, Nerys." Odo blinked as Kira gave him a truly wicked look from over Bashir's shoulder which settled into her normal cool professional expression as the doctor turned back to her. She nodded affirmatively at Julian. "No argumenth." He smiled at this, pleasantly surprised at this unexpected level of concession between his two more difficult patients, and continued with his careful assessment. (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) "This is simply...incredibly...beautiful." Odo agreed, although he wasn't looking at the view. He had already seen the view a few times before. Earth's well-named Grand Canyon was one of the most majestic places he knew of in the galaxy. He still hoped to see it for himself some day, but according to Jake and the O'Brien's, the holosuite version wasn't bad. Right now, though, his attention was on the way the Arizona sun gleamed on Kira's dark auburn hair, and the way the pine-scented air ruffled through it. His fingers twitched as they longed to do the same thing. Suddenly she turned to look at him, a relaxed and happy smile on her face and he nodded. "Jake told me about it. He said nothing on Earth could match the incredible beauty except perhaps the view of the Sahara at dawn. But the Sahara is supposed to be hot and I thought you'd appreciate a more temperate locale." "You're so thoughtful, Odo." Kira sidled closer to him and took his hand in hers. To his delight, she lifted it and kissed it. "I apologize for earlier, but..." She paused, not certain how to phrase her unspoken thought and finally opted for candor. "It's just I'd like to keep *us* between us for awhile." "Clandestine." He smiled a little. "Sounds like something an ex-resistance member would appreciate." She squeezed his hand gratefully. "Something like that. Except I don't think you'd have appreciated how non-private relationships were back then. Living in the caves, tending wounded and bathing and other things normally not done with others around, nothing but a blanket sometimes to keep lovemaking private between people." She sighed now, a far-off expression in her eyes that troubled Odo slightly. "It's why I didn't allow myself to get close to anyone. Well, one of the reasons anyway." He knew she had seen a great deal as a resistance member, had lived through a great deal. He had as well, and had many memories he preferred to keep in the past. Sometimes, however, like now, those memories intruded. He finally said simply, "I'd imagine it would also be hard when you weren't certain if someone would be returning from a mission or not." She considered him now, then nodded and smiled, moving closer to put her head against his shoulder. He slipped his arm around her and closed his eyes, reveling in the feeling of her against him. It made him ease his somewhat stiff posture and Kira noted this. "Why don't we try relaxing, like Doctor Bashir ordered?" He opened his eyes again and looked down at her. "What did you have in mind?" Those dark brown eyes glimmered with a touch of mischief, but she merely pointed toward a bank of unobtrusive food replicators by a series of rustic tourist shops and a large, but still somehow cozy-looking rest lodge, included in the program. "We never did have breakfast." "Remember what Bashir--" "Nothing too hot, nothing too cold, nothing too hard or chewy until tomorrow morning...yeah, yeah, let's eat." She pressed his hand urging him along with her. She added teasingly, "Try out that digestive tract Julian says you have." He tilted his head, bemused. "I only form that so I can share a raktajino with you in the morning, and during our breaks." "I notice you seem to like that." He considered this. "One thing I found myself missing about being humanoid was the sense of taste. I can analyze textures and temperatures to a certain degree, but...well, since my conversion, my sense of taste is severely blunted. Only very strong flavors seem to make any impression." "Well, raktajino is definitely strong." Kira agreed. "It's one of the few things I can actually experience." Odo sighed. Kira considered this, then, to his surprise angled their progress from the replicators, toward a structure which advertised itself as a clothing shop. "Kira?" "We'll get something in a minute. I just got an idea." (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) "All right, try this one now." "Aren't you hungry?" "Never mind me. You go on." Odo sighed. He opened his mouth and a spoonful of something warm and...(yes!)...something _sweet_, filled his oral cavity. He *could* taste this! He left it in his mouth and continued to savor the faint, but definite tinge of sweetness. The warmth seemed to add to the flavor, enriching it. He'd have to try it cold, he decided, before swallowing it. "Now there. I could tell you liked that one." He turned his bandanna-covered eyes to her and smiled. "What was that, Nerys?" "Hot caramel. Jake gave me some on some ice-cream once and I thought it was great." "Ice cream." "I could get you some of that, if you'd like to try it?" He shook his head. "We've been at this long enough." They had already determined that the spoonful samplings of human ethnic foods known as Mexican, Thai and Cajun were more than strong enough for him to taste, as was Bajoran hasperat, extra spicy, and most of the Bajoran coastal specialties, heavily salted, spiced or pickled as they were. Kira had finally decided they needed desert. I'danian spice pudding and fried banana's with rum raisin sauce had been an unqualified success. But Odo felt a bit guilty having such attention lavished on him. "You were the one that was hungry and you haven't eaten anything." "What makes you think I haven't been sampling along with you?" she chortled, her voice indeed sounding as if her mouth was full. Suddenly, he could feel her lips brushing against his as she said softly, "How does *this* taste, constable?" He opened his lips immediately to her leisurely exploration. The kiss was warm and sensuous...and sticky. He detected the caramel, but there was something else.... "Mumph." Kira pulled back, gently licking at his lips as she did and making him swallow. "Comment, constable?" "Chocolate. Hot fudge." "*Very* good! What else?" "Caramel." He licked his lips, too, then smiled. "But I think I'd like to try that again, just to be sure." "Whatever you say." Their kiss deepened and he could hear, if not see the clanging of dishes and silverware being moved aside. Then he felt her warm and welcome weight against him, on his lap. She moved back from his lips long enough to order tersely, "Computer. Remove all holo-characters from program." He heard the respondent chirp, then felt Kira's avid hands stroking his head, his face, down his neck. One toyed with his fabricated neckline, the other ran along his back. "I'd like to taste something else now, Odo." "Mm. Can I remove the blindfold?" "The uniform will do." She kissed him again, and he allowed his uniform to shimmer into bare humanoid skin. His hands found her own uniform and began to peel it from her. With her help, it was soon gone and he could feel her soft skin against his own surface. The lack of vision made it seem much more intense. He shuddered with desire, then recalled he still had a few dozen samplings of food within and that it was not the time or place to dispose of them. "Nerys." "Mmmmm..." "I...I can't shift right now." he managed to say out of the corner of his mouth. "Mmm?" He pulled back a little, spoke breathlessly against her neck. "I mean...we *can* make love, but...it'll have to be humanoid style." He was not the least bit regretful; he knew she enjoyed their trysts in this fashion, and her response always ensured he enjoyed it as well, even if it wasn't as thoroughly fulfilling as making love to her in his liquid form. "Okay." She didn't sound particularly regretful either, he noted, before dipping his head to nuzzle her neck and beginning to gently suck and nibble on her warm flesh. He could feel her doing the same and savored the sensation. There was much to be said for being humanoid, he decided. Her hands stroked along his chest, rubbed his small brown nipples, then teased them with fingertips, then lips and teeth. He threw his head back and swallowed before paying her the same sort of attention. He still couldn't see, but he nosed his way to the firm, warm mounds of her breasts, circled each aureole with the tip of his nose, pleased to hear her giggle, then gasp as he closed his mouth on them and gently teased the nipple back and forth with his tongue before sucking on it in earnest, his hand caressing the other. He dipped his other hand down to assess her damp folds. Kira gasped, then shuddered as his long, tapered fingers slid alongside her small, throbbing clit and began to gently rub back and forth. More moisture seeped from her, spread between them along his thigh. "Odo!" Then she pulled him down atop her insistently. He could hear more dishes clattering on the blanket they'd been enjoying their taste-testing on, but ignored it to gently lay atop her, his humanoid organ already swollen and ready. It was the one of the easiest body parts for him to form. Having been human and learned the intricacies of it's functioning made it even easier, and it remained an exquisitely sensitive part of him. He thrilled at the firm, loving caresses she bestowed on it, allowing her to stroke him as he concentrated on fitting himself between her spread thighs. Currently blinded, it was a bit difficult, though, and he was grateful when she carefully aimed him in the right direction. Her hand tugging on his buttock let him know he was on target. This was definitely something new. Sightless, he trusted her and allowed himself to slide forward. He sank to the hilt and just lay for a moment, savoring the tight, heated wetness that surrounded him, before giving in to her body's insistent rhythm. He could feel her legs hook around him, behind his thighs. Her hands clutched at him as his pulsing length stroked the side of her clit with each thrust. He moved a little closer in order to kiss her, to nuzzle at her neck and feel her breasts pressed tight against him, his surface as sensitive, if not more so, than when he'd been human. There was definitely something to be said for humanoid love-making, he mused. "Odo..." Her legs wrapped more tightly around him and her hands brought him closer still until he found himself making smaller, tighter thrusts, feeling the hard button of her clit pulsing, feeling the muscles along her belly ripple and her breasts push up with every gasp of breath she took now. Heat and pulsing pleasure was filling her from their connection, and she could feel herself getting closer to the summit. Her hands clutched at him now, grabbing his shoulders, bringing him closer still. Her open mouth was making sounds she didn't even hear, as Odo began to gently nibble on her ear. Then her loins convulsed, a sharp almost painful climax rippling through her and she bit down hard on the firm, warm, flesh-like shoulder before her in response, caught up in dazzling ecstasy. Odo gasped at the sensation, feeling an equally powerful pressure between his legs, then he abruptly found himself thrusting into a hot slickness that reminded him of nothing so much as his liquid state. His consciousness faded with the pleasure of it, and he fought to stay in human form, resisted the urge to stop thrusting and go liquid, feeling her still convulsing around him in the aftershock of pleasure. He slowed his movements though as she began to slowly relax, then sigh deeply with satisfaction. Odo smiled, stopping and resting against her carefully. He knew she enjoyed this as much or more than their actual coupling. He didn't disengage, feeling a slow waning pulsation around his stiffened organ and sighing himself. He nuzzled her neck again and kissed his lover's warm, soft skin. "Nerys." "Mmm..." "Can I take this off now?" he murmured, a little amused. He heard her throaty chuckle, felt her hands drift upward, then felt the bandanna gently being tugged off and met her dark, happy gaze. She was beautiful, flushed with satisfaction. His own blue eyes shone with warmth and joy. "I love you." "I love *you*." He moved back to her neck again, kissed her velvety ear. "This was a good idea," he sighed contentedly. "It wuth wonderful." (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) * * * * * (-|-) "I don't think he believed you." "I don't think I care." "A bone in your stew?" "Sometimes Ratamba stew has little bits of bone. It's part of the stew. That's why you're supposed to eat it carefully." "Ah." "Besides, it might have gone over better if you hadn't fished in your shoulder and given him the cap." "I just suddenly realized where it probably was." "Did Julian look like he was grinning to you?" "No. But he did give me a very funny look as we were leaving." "What was it he told you?" Odo froze, then shrugged off-handedly. "It doesn't matter." "Constable..." Odo sighed. "He...he said the next time he wanted the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth." "Sweet celestial Prophets..." "I suppose so. He did finish by saying, 'so help me God'." "I wonder what he meant." "I have no idea, Nerys." "Hm. Humans have odd sayings." "I've noticed that." "Like O'Brien. The other day he said 'well, shiver me timbers' under his breath." "I think I read that in one of his novels." "Oh. And the captain. The other day after we finished our joint-report to Admiral Necheyev and ended the transmission, he said 'aye, aye, Captain Bligh'." "That *is* odd." Kira sighed. "Well, at least I don't sound funny anymore." "I thought you sounded fine, even with the cap off." "Why constable, that's very sweet." He smiled at her, leaned in for a deep, heartfelt kiss. "It's the tooth." ~~ finis ~~ ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- September 1997.
