What is this series I hear you cry. Well, I'm glad you asked!

Several years ago, I was having a conversation with a fellow fanfic writer, where we were both talking about Alternate Universes (AU) and how, if one thing was changed or one descision was made differently, things could have been very different indeed.

With that in mind, Cath and I began discussing what might have happened had the occupation not lasted as long as it did, had Odo not been investigated as he was but left in a disused lab for even longer. The ages of the cadets, Kira being 26, Bashir 27, and Dax 28, is established in Emmissary part II and The Maquis part II, and helped foster the idea that it was possible for the trio to have been at Starfleet Academy around the same time.

We've played fast and loose with canon as is, and we've played even faster with many other things, but that's to be expected in an AU series. And this series isn't really meant to be a reflection on what is considered 'real' anyway, it's merely an exploration of ideas and how things might happen given a slightly different circumstance.
